Hello

Chris Denton is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Chris has lived in Central Oregon for over 15 years and earned his graduate degree from OSU’s Cascades Campus. Chris began working with children and mental health in the 1990s. Chris also holds an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science from OSU Corvallis. Prior to being a therapist, Chris worked on Superfund and ski area development projects. Chris routinely contributes his time to outreach; he has served as a board member for the Family Access Network, and has been a contributing panel member for the Patient Safety Movement Foundation.

My Story

Chris routinely assists clients throughout the lifespan. When asked how Chris is able to work with children/youth and adults, the response is often, “How can a therapist work with adults if they do not understand child development?”. Chris often works from an attachment-based, adaptive functioning perspective. This may include supporting one as they adjust to immediate life stressors (such as grieving the loss of a loved one, or having to adjust to middle school), as well as working through complex trauma (including childhood trauma) and multiple diagnostic impressions. Chris often engages with parents as they support their children throughout their development.

Chris regularly works with diagnoses/symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, depression, bi-polar, ADHD, autism spectrum, and reactive attachment disorder. Chris is trained in and regularly utilizes evidence-based practices, including EMDR, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), TF-CBT, ABFT, and CPC-CBT therapy. Chris has experience working with professional athletes, concussions/injury, high profile cases, first responders, veterans, and teachers. Chris also brings experience working through the clarification/reunification process in abuse cases.  Chris is a Supervisor and oversees Registered Associates working towards licensure.

Chris lives in Bend with his wife and their two children. Chris enjoys teaching his kids how to ski and coaching youth sports in his free time. When not immersed in community life, you may find Chris exploring the Great West - hiking, fishing, backpacking, or boondocking with his family. Chris also finds time for cooking, live music, and the occasional art or construction project.
